Geography
The central half of Cambodia is mainly flat lowlands. Savannas border the lowlands, and mountains border the savannas. To the north near Thailand lie the Dangrek Mountains, and to the south of those are the Cardamom Mountains, and then the Elephant Mountains. Because Cambodia is located a little bit above the equator, many tropical forests can be found in the eastern highlands. In the past, 75% of Cambodia's land was covered in lush rain forests. The percentage has been reduced to about 40% thanks to illegal logging and lumber companies.
