Khmer Empire
The Khmer Empire was established more than 1,800 years ago. For 4 centuries, the Khmer Empire reigned all around South East Asia. The Khmer people built hundreds of temples for both Hindu and Buddhist gods.
The ancient Angkor Wat temple was built by the Khmer Empire in the 12th century. It is one of the most famous ancient temples. King Suryavarman II ordered for the temple to be built in honor of Vishnu (a Hindu God) and himself. The Angkor Wat temple was the main reason for the decline of the Khmer Empire, since it cost tons of money and almost bankrupt the entire nation.
Besides temples, the Khmer also built many other things like roads and irrigation canals. Irrigation canals helped the Khmer people grow and harvest rice a lot easier. The annual rice harvests were what made a lot of money.
